This summer our team will be traveling to Sapporo, Japan from June 18 to July 9, mainly to help with the campus ministry of Student Impact at Hokkaido University.
Hokkaido University, although a public national university with no official affiliation to Christianity, has a rich history of Christian ministry. In 1876, the founding President of the school, William Smith Clark, is quoted for saying “Boys, be ambitious,” a statement that is still well-known throughout all of Japan today. But the original quote that Clark left is “Boys, be ambitious for Christ.” Following Clark’s leadership, a culture of Christianity was established at the school, leading to notable Japanese Christian leaders being formed who continued ministering even after Clark left the school to return to America.
Since then, much of the Christian presence has diminished, and is no longer a core value of the school. Our team’s hope is to continue the work that God had begun long ago, and to be a part of the revival that God has planned for this campus, city, and country.
Missions does not happen without your prayerful partnership. Each member of our team is raising $4,600 this summer, and a total of $65,000. We ask that you prayerfully consider joining us this summer through your support in prayer and finances.
